This guide shows you how to sign up for QuickFile, activate your new account and log in for the first time. It only takes a few minutes.
When you sign up, you choose an account name. This becomes your own QuickFile address, for example https://acmeplumbing.quickfile.co.uk. It’s where you log in, and where your clients view their invoices.

Go to www.quickfile.co.uk.
Click Sign Up Now. A box for your account name appears further down the same page.
Enter a name for your account, such as your business name. If you’re a sole trader or landlord, you can use your own name. QuickFile removes spaces and symbols and shows your new address underneath as you type.
When you see Great news! Your chosen name is available, click GO to continue, click Go.
Tip: Choose a name you’ll recognise. It’s part of your login address from now on, and your clients will see it when they view your invoices.
The Getting Started form opens with your account name already filled in.
Choose your Business Type: Limited Company, Sole Trader, Partnership, Charity (Limited), Charity (Non-Limited) or Landlord.
Important: Please choose carefully. You can’t change the business type later.
Optional: if you chose Limited Company or Charity (Limited), you can enter your Company Number and move to the next box. QuickFile fills in your details from Companies House. Check them and change anything that’s wrong. You can leave the box empty and type your details yourself.
Under A little bit about yourself, enter your First Name and Surname, and your Business Name and Profession if they’re shown.
Under Your Client Area, check the Client Area Name. It should say Great news, your chosen client area domain is available!
Under Your Login, enter your Email address.
Enter a Password of at least 8 characters, then enter it again in Confirm Password.
Click Save and Continue.
The fields depend on the business type you choose:
| Business Type | What’s different |
|---|---|
| Limited Company, Charity (Limited) | Company Number box (optional), which looks up your details at Companies House |
| Sole Trader, Partnership, Charity (Non-Limited) | No company number |
| Landlord | No Business Name or Profession. Your account is set up with ledgers for managing rented properties, and the client area is called Your Tenant Area |
Tip: For a strong password, avoid dictionary words, common names and repetition, and mix upper and lower-case letters, numbers and symbols. See Password Policy.
The next screen, A little bit about your business, asks for your address and a few other details.
Enter your address in Address 1, Address 2, Address 3, Town and Post code. The Country is set to United Kingdom.
If you’re VAT registered, tick VAT Registered and enter your VAT number (it’s required once the box is ticked). Then choose your VAT Method: Cash Accounting (selected by default) or Accrual Accounting. If you use the Flat Rate Scheme, tick Use Flat Rate VAT Method and enter your flat rate percentage.
If you like, enter your Phone Number, Web Address and Referral Code.

You’ll see Your account is almost ready! QuickFile sends an activation email to the address you entered.
QuickFile then sends a Welcome to QuickFile! email from noreply@quickfile.co.uk. It confirms your account is activated and lists your key login details: your Account number, your Account address (your login page), and the Email address you log in with. Keep this email, as it’s the easiest way to find your login address later.
You’ll also receive a Getting Started with QuickFile email, with links to guides for your first steps, such as creating your first invoice, connecting your bank feed and tagging your bank transactions.
Please note: If the activation email doesn’t arrive within a few minutes, check your junk and spam folders. See Troubleshooting below.
https://acmeplumbing.quickfile.co.uk.Important: Always log in from your own address. The Login link on the QuickFile homepage doesn’t log you in: it asks for your email address and emails you a link to each of your accounts.
Your account is ready to use, and you can start setting up your records straight away.
Check your junk and spam folders, and check you typed your email address correctly. If it still hasn’t arrived, ask on the QuickFile community or contact support, who can send it again.
Another account already uses that address. Try a different name, for example add your town or trade.
Enter at least 3 letters or numbers. Spaces and symbols don’t count.
The form checks your name again. Enter a different Client Area Name on the form.
This can happen if you chose Landlord and then changed to another business type. Reload the page and choose your business type again.
Look for the Welcome to QuickFile! email you received when you activated your account. Your login page is shown as the Account address. If you can’t find it:
Go to www.quickfile.co.uk and click Login.
On Find your QuickFile Account, enter your email address, tick the reCAPTCHA box and click Submit.
Open the Log into your QuickFile account.. email. It lists every account registered to your email address. Click the button for the company you want to open its login page.
Bookmark the login page so you can go straight to it next time.
Each email address can only register one QuickFile account. To manage several businesses, see Why am I restricted to registering only one account per email address?.
