Some search fields in QuickFile support advanced syntax that allow you to retreive deeper and richer results. This includes support for partial (i.e part of a word) and phrase matching (a group of words in strict order).
By default Enhanced Search fields will match to whole words, meaning that results will only be returned if the word you enter is found in the target text (e.g. client name, invoice description etc).
Partial matching is where you would like to receive results when only part of the word matches. To do this simply add an asterisk character (*) to the end of your search e.g.
Brit* will return results with the text “British Gas”.
If you have multiple words in your search, Enhanced Search Fields will typically find results where the supplied words match in any order. E.g.
August Web Sales will return any results containing at least one instance of the word “August”, “Web” or “Sales”.
Perhaps we only want results that contain the exact phrase “August Web Sales”, to achieve this we would wrap the search in double quotes e.g.
“August Web Sales” will return text where those words appear in this strict order.
Phrase match is good for narrowing down on a larger results set.
Words in your search can be separated with the above operators to get more precise results e.g.
August AND Sales will return results only if both words are found in the text.
August OR Sales will return results if either of the words are found in the text.
August NOT Sales will return results if the text contains the word “August” but not the word “Sales”.
